VIBE

I am creating a visual landscape rich in Mediterranean colors and textures embodied in the lives of large families found in Palestine, U.S.A. There is a continual discordant harmony between the 1970s traditional Arab émigrés, and their Arab-American daughter, Nisreen, who straddles two worlds—old and new—and struggles with the meaning of living on the fringe of her community. It is a world filled with creative cunning insults, regional humor, outdated traditions, and generational gaffes. We see the richness of the culture through dishes of kanafeh and the grains in coffee cup readings. I am creating a blue monochrome visual film that will reflect the sky in Nisreen’s work and the water in Gina’s and yet creating the film’s own world.
